Pilot Bearing Q

I was wondering if anyone knows how far the pilot bearing is supposed to be pressed into the flywheel? Should it be flush at the begining, middle, or flush on the backside right before the housing opens up to meet the crank? I dont think whoever put the last one in did it right since it was fried so I want to know exactly where its suppose to be before i put this thing back together.

Unless they've drasticly changed the way they're put together , the pilot bearing goes in flush with the end of the crankshaft. Then the flywheel bolts to the crank. The bearing does not go into the flywheel.

umm, on the 4.0L and possibly the 3.0L the pilot DOES go in the flywheel, not the crank. it goes in the crank on the 2.3 though.
