clutch catches to high
Hey fellas. I was hoping i could find some info on the matter. I just bought my first car a 97 2.3 ranger. A problem ive noticed is that the clutch catch point is way to high. i have about two inches between it being fully released and grabbing. Any ideas on what the problem can be? The clutch doesn't seem to be slipping so im not to sure what it could be. ive also heard that hydraulic clutches are self adjusting so im stumped there too.

Hmmm..
I would try topping off your clutch fluid in the reservoir and see if that helps.. If it doesn't I would try bleeding the slave to eliminate all air in the system. If that doesn't help and if it's not slipping you're probably okay. Usually when a clutch is pretty worn down it will catch high but since yours isn't slipping that doesn't sound to be the case. |

Here is a bleeding video:
Under harder acceleration you would see your rpm's jumping up a little. You would feel the engine racing up but the truck not really accelerating compared to the amount of gas that you're giving it. |

Your reverse position sensor on the transmission is more than likely bad. Thats the problem mine had. Its a pretty cheep fix.

Its pretty each to instal. I blieve you just turn it out with a wrench and put the new one in if i recall right.

hey thanks for all the help. i tried it out but went the lazy way. i sucked out all the liquid from the master cylinder with a syringe. then added new fluid. then i cracked the bleed screw and just let it flow and kept filling up. now my clutch catches a little less then half way out.

It is on the left side (driver's side) of the transmission. Just disconnect the electrical connector and unscrew the sensor. Install the new one and reconnect the electrical connector. Very easy fix.
