Clutch leaking fluid...meaning?

I dont have much knowledge in trannys and such like that so I was hopeing that you guys could help me. I have been leaking clutch fluid over the past few weeks. I have to fill the reservoir back up about once a day. While its low on fluid, there is a lot of slack in the pedal, and its a bit harder to switch gears. Is this the slave cylinder gone bad?

did you check your bleeder screw on the side of the slave?? Usually, if it's the slave, it'll start to fell mushy and only have a few inches of "grab" on the clutch. imagine only having disenagement 1" from the floor....and sloppy/nothingness from the top all theway down to the floor. That's what mine did. I managed to get 2 more days out of it, by shifting clutchless....then she just pooped. non functioning.

I'll double check the tightness of the bleeder, but the leak seems to be coming from the bottom of the tranny, out of the hole at the bottom of the bell housing.

its your slave cylinder, dont wait long to replace it or you wont be driving the truck. Also without full release on the clutch you could be wearing the transmission itself from having to force it into gear. If you have the time it is not a difficult job to do yourself (it helps to have another set of hands to muscle the tranny around) and with the bodylift you wont have to try and unbolt the exhaust which is usually the hardest part.

+ 1 on the slave cylinder being shot also they can be a bear to bleed bench bleeding helps b4 installing it

I didn't bench bleed mine.......bleeding was fairly easy. Still have a hoodie's left arm all covered with brake fluid though.

lol, thats why I choose to work in a t-shirt, messed up way to many hoodies or carhartt jackets. to expensive to get gear oil on them.

yep the slave is gone and it was a b***** to get my tranny dropped

got-dirty 04-25-2007 07:07 PM

i love my bodylift, for this reason. dropping the tranny is cake in my truck now. Granted i dont have to drop the exhaust like most v6's, but gettin to every bolt is so much easier. Im on my 4th slave since ive owned this thing, almost 3 years.

Fx4wannabe01 04-26-2007 05:00 AM

I'm about ready to swap in the 3rd since ownership.....all in under 70k.

mossyoak03 04-26-2007 10:24 AM

yep my third one will be going in soon too

UNCCRang49 04-27-2007 04:11 PM

this is the second and a half for me. lol. and two in my old tranny, got a "new" junkyard tranny, so theres the half. I just picked up the cylinder, be putting it in tommarow.

just finished her up yesterday. feels so much better and no more puddles of fluid under the truck.

How do I look and see if my slave cylinder is leaking? It's in the transmission

Depends on the transmission, but on the Mazda M5OD there's a rubber plug about the size of a playing card on the driver's side of the bellhousing. Pull that plug out, and then shine a flashlight through the hole and inspect the slave for wetness. If you see any wetness, the slave is leaking brake fluid.
