clutch problem
2000 Ranger XLT. Is the clutch hydraulic? It is a 5-speed. Also the fluid is low. when replacing what is the procedure for doing that?
|
Yes. I dont think the Ranger EVER had a cable clutch, except the old F-Rangers.
Whats the problem? |
the cluctch goes to the floor and the fluid is low. put it in gear and it doesnt move. i think the clutch isnt engaging.

is there any fluid on the bottom of the tranny?
|
well from a previous bad oil filter but not anything recent
btw this isnt my truck its someone elses just trying to diagnose it |
Need to bleed the slave cylinder to get the air out of the line. Its probably leaking too since the fluid is low in the first place, so it would be a good idea to replace it. Unfortunately IIRC the slave cylinder is INSIDE the bellhousing in the newer models. So replacement will require removal of the transmission.
There should be a dust cover on the bottom half of the bellhousing. Unbolt it and check inside to see if there is clutch fluid splattered everywhere. If there is, its a good bet the slave cylinder is bad. |
