I like everything about my ranger except the motor going out part, I'd like some more power, when it goes around a curve of black ice on the interstate, you squint your eyes wondering if your gonna make it so great amounts of. power isn't needed, the farther in you stick it, the more it costs ya (eh- four wheelers stick it in farther) . I heard front wheel drive motors will bolt up to my transmission, I don't know if scrap yard will want to waiste a mans time as he follows you around the yard with a bell houseing, I'd appreciate a direction to go thanks

3.0l vulcan engine has unique trans bolt pattern, no other engine uses that pattern.
So replace it with 3.0l or go for full V8 swap

3.0l Vulcan engine was also used in Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable cars, front wheel drive.
It has a different cam than the Ranger 3.0l, more horse power but less torque, but most say it isn't noticeable.

Since the cooling system on the cars has coolant going in the back of the motor and out the front the head gasket design is different for the car 3.0l.
If using car engine in a Ranger it is recommended that you change head gaskets to Ranger model, but again people who have done that swap say it didn't matter.
I would do it though.

Also used Aerostar and windstar vans

List is here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Vulcan_engine
