Clutch replacement , exhaust removal questions

So its time to do the clutch on my 03 4.0 4x4 . I am wondering about the exhuast y-pipe. is it possible to leave it in there. I am dreading the thought of having those studs strip or break out of the exhaust manifolds if i have to remove it. I heard you can "clearance" a body seam near the top of the bell housing to slide the trans back and out. Is there any truth to this?

doing my 2002 right now. I paid my mechanic to break free these nuts.
he had to use a torch, so, I made a smart choice
he charged me 20.00
best 20.00 I have spent

I've had to take my y pipes off both times. Stripped one of the studs the last time. Real easy to change if you have a torch. Just make sure to soak them in a penetrating Lube first and let them sit.
