4WD and 4WD low lights flash periodically
And the 4wd won't engage.
This is happening on my '96 with a Dana 30 front axle. The only thing the Electronic shifting transfer case has to do is engage so the axle gets power.
I checked the code and all I am getting is P1000 which I beleive is more driving required. I drove the truck to and from work 5 miles each way, is this enough or is more driving really required? This set up has been on the truck for over 3k miles without incident.
Any suggestions?

An ordinary OBDII code reader can only access PCM codes. For 96, the codes for the transfer case are stored in the GEM. A Ford dealer has the special reader that can access codes in the GEM and all of the other onboard modules.
The position sensor (encoder) inside the T/C's gearmotor/encoder assembly is often the cause of shifting problems and codes. It is sensitive to water infiltration and corrosion.
