Cold weather starting

I have a 2002 Escape that refuses to stay running until the engine is warm. It has been getting down to single digits here lately and my wifes escape dosn't like it. Is there a battery powered engine heater or are they all plug in style. I live in an appartment that assigns parking slots randomly and my parking slot is across the street so I cannot plug in a conv. heater. What can I do. Any and all help would be appreciated.

Within the PCM tune there is a whole set of parameters for 20F, 0F, and -20F startup fuel, timing, and commanded rpms. If it's not holding rpms? I'd clean (or replace) the IAC valve first.

+1

Fords with a good charging system and in a good state of tune will start unassisted down to around -30F. No need to ever plug in for Texas winters.

I agree as well, Ford uses a good system. My car stumbled this morning when I started it the first time, second time it was fine. It has done it before too (sitting overnight in low temps), but I never had that problem with the Ranger!

I've never had any problem with my ranger either but I'm not real familiar with this Escape yet.

Where is the IAC Valve?

Try running some heat in the fuel.

Just to make sure its not water causing an issue in the system.
