31's and 3.73's

I have a 2000 xlt with a 4.0 and auto trans. My question is, will i be able to run 31's and 3.73's with out having any problems with the transmission or having it be sluggish when trying to get going from a dead stop? Also my gears are 8.8 size if that helps at all.

Thanks,
Sam

That is a pretty common stock setup, no problems.

Just for reference, the FX4 Rangers that come stock with 31" tires have 4.10 gears. Personally, I've driven an older Ranger (not my current ride) with the 31"/3.73 combo and I didn't like it. That truck was a stick. Since yours is an auto, you may find the reduction in pickup more tolerable...

with the stock size at 235/75r15 the truck has a lot of power. So do you think a 1 inch height difference will make that big of a difference?

I'm running 3.73's and 31's with a 4.0 and auto. Doesn't feel sluggish at all, lights the tires up under heavy throttle. Seems pretty fine with me
