Manual Transmission Troubles

The clutch pedal feels just the same as it used to, but for the past day the shifter will NOT go into any gear while the truck is idling. If I start the engine while the truck is in gear, I can shift fine, albeit the movement is a little bit sticky. I'm in South Padre right now and don't have much access to reliable shops or mechanics. Anyone have any idea what this might be? We are trying to bleed the clutch but can't find much good instruction anywhere. The truck has just under 70k on it. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Sounds like the infamous slave cylinder failure. Is the engagement point closer to the floor than it used to be?

time to pull the trans down put a new slave cylinder and then just replace the clutch while your in there.

Kyle...you and I are alot alike: '01 Xlt 4.0 5spd Waag bar and all that. AND we have the SAME problem with our trucks. Slave Cylinder problems. On mine, the pedal feels mushy and there's alot of slopy looseness for half the pedal range. It sucks. Hard to put into gear at times, espicially slowing down toward a red light when you shift into 1st.

Since ford are idiots with this new slave cylinder, they putit into the bellhousing, so you must pull the trans. While in there, a new clutch is a very good idea.

I havn't done anything yet to mine, in about a month, my truck will be in our shop and the tranny dumped out.

Damn. I was really hoping it would be something simple. The pedal feels pretty much the same after bleeding the clutch. Is this something I'll be able to drive 600 miles home on? As it stands, I have to turn the truck off to even go from reverse to 1st.
