Cool

So my rear axle was leaking from the diff cover so i decided that i might as well change the cover itself. i bought the diff cover from mac. its made of aluminum. so i go to install it and i did everything correctly. i know that with aluminum u have to torque it correctly or else u will damage it. i slowly tightened all the bolts in a criss cross pattern. then i go to do the final torque on the bolts and twang. the cover cracked. FUKC!!! yeah i wasnt to thrilled. i just spent $150 for it plus Royal Purple gear oil. i blamed the torque wrench. i tried to jb weld untill i got a new one but it didnt work. so now my truck is in the street till i get the new cover. it doesnt leak unless i drive it. so i ordered the TRS Fab cover in hopes that it wont crack. what do u guys think? crappy cover, bad wrench or bad mechanic (me)? arrrrrrg!!!!!

For less than that you can get the IRS Explorer aluminum diff covers. They work great, are REALLY heavy duty, and probably cost 1/3 to 1/2 of what you paid for that one.

You can get them with the "ears" cut off and painted, but I used one just like they come off the Exploder.

Here's a topic on my install -- there are others on here also:

i will call mac tomorrow and see whats up. i tried to exchange the wrench but craftsman torque wrenches only have a one year warranty. i was frustated on sat and i already ordered the TRS cover. i just want to get the damn thing going again. i hate borrowing the ex's car. i should have researched more when i bought the cover.

called the company and nothing. improper installation is all i got so i will never buy anything from MAC again. all well
