Tire Size limit

Is the limit on tire size that you see on lift kits and other things for the rangers mainly based on the lug pattern and size?

reason i ask is because i was looking for lockouts for my D30 that will be under the front of the truck and they recommend running this other kit which converts it to 5 on 5.5 for tires 33" and bigger as the 5 on 4.5 is not strong enough??

idk maybe it is obvious to others before but i was wondering if that was the same reasoning for the lift kit manufacturers saying limit on tire size as well.

and yes i know what tire size other people have ran on rangers and it works just fine.

the lift kit manufactures say the max tire size based on a wheel travel, wheel well openings, and actual height of tire and truck.....

yes a 5x5.5 is a stronger lug pattern because it is bigger....the larger the diameter and more lugs you have the stronger it gets........like on some older Chevy's, the 5x6.5 lug pattern is still yet stronger..........and the 6x5.5 on the newer 1/2 ton Chevy's are yet again stronger than the 5x5.5 pattern......

the main concern with a lug pattern is from torque out of the engine........that is really what causes the most stress on the lugs causing them to shear off...

the 5x4.5" pattern is ok strenght wise.......i wouldn't worry about running up to 38's on it...

warn offers two different styles of lockouts

5on4.5
and
5on5.5

im thinking about getting them as it makes for serviceable bearings.

only problem is the price tag of 1100 bucks.

its not horrible to what i have put in my truck.

if ive got driveshaft vibrations because of the driveshaft angle it would be worth every penny.

i have 3 different driveshafts in the garage, im sure one of them with work with modification.

that is the least of my worries.

plus i have to wait until scott has some free space in his garage so i can swap out my gears.

then why doesn't Warn make a 5x5.5 conversion kit for a Ranger ? the 5x5.5 kit is not needed unless you plan on running huge **** tires......shoot a 33" tire can almost fit on a Jeep in stock form...

Idk,and i am just guessing, but i would say they recomend the 5on5.5 because the hub it self is bigger and stronger, because of this it will not fit in the hole on the wheel of a 5x4.5,they say you have to use the 5on5.5 wheel.Soooo bigger hole 5on5.5 means stronger hub.And peace of mind.Myself i still do not think you will break a hub.Just me guessing.

Zach as stated above it has nothing to do with the bolt pattern but with the strength of the hub. the 5 on 4.5 is made off of the ranger hub for pre-97 rangers and the 5 on 5.5 is made off of a 1/2 ton tuck which will be stronger on a smaller truck. If your going to stick with your 35's and just want serviceable bearing then just get the 5 on 4.5.

Jeeps actually suck at fitting oversized tires. They have absolutely no tucking ability. Aaron and I both have CJ's and we needed a lot of lift to fit our tires. The newer models are the same

the Jeep 5x4.5 hub is actually a stronger hub than the Ranger hub......it is a very popular modification for TTB Rangers with a Dana 35 to put in a Jeep flange hub.......the Jeeps have stronger internals.....

here is another Ranger site were someone asked which hub was better for a Ranger...the Jeep or the Ranger hub...

there are a lot of cherokee's around here with stock suspension with 33's.....i definately think it looks like crap since any little flex would rip the fender off.....
