A couple rear axle questions
So im planning on going to harrys you pull it Wednesday to get a rear axle with 4.10 gears. My original plan was to get an explorer axle and swap it in, but i just found out that i have to pay for every part separate (axle rotors calipers ebrake lines ect) so that is guna be 45 just for the axle. so i was thinking of just getting another ranger axle and strip everything off of it and just buying the axle and swapping all my rear brakes stuff onto it.
So my questions are 1. what year ranger axles will my brakes fit onto 2. what year rangers do the limited slips come in and what models other than the fx4 i dought i will find one of them but who knows. Thanks guys |
really? thats a messed up way of selling it. did u pm mhughes on rangerstation? he can get them all day long and cheap. i dont know about with 4.10s tho, i dont think any explorers came with that ratio, its most common in the 4cyl rangers.

oh and ur brakes will def fit onto 92-94 explorer axles, 95 they went to disk brakes. but ur brakes may fit older then 92 im not sure
the rear brakes on all rangers were all drums and explorers came with 4.10s
Not all Expos came with 4.10s, where'd you hear that at
yea but rangers came with two different size rear brakes, i think one is 10 and one is 9 or something, i forget. and i dont disbelieve u about the 4.10s in an explorer, i just heard people say u can only find them in 4 banger rangers, i never looked for one myself, my explorer rear only has 3.27's :irked:

he meant it was available, i understood him. i didnt even think it was an option till i read it on that page.
yeah i was talking about the bakes not the gears
Ohhh I misunderstood. :footinmou
its cool trent
I think with even the Expo axles with disc brakes you still have to reweld the shock mounts and spring perches. Just something to think about.
yea definitely do, only other option is the fx4 axle.
yeah i know thats the thing im kinda worried about getting done b4 the 21st and the brakes on the explorer axle
all i can say is i cant find a shop local that can get spring pads or ubolt kits or anything, so ur basically gona have to go with the ruffstuff kit for $120.
im guna cut the old ones off and put them on top and use ubolts from an f150
Don't cheap out, do it the right way.

I would try to find another junkyard. I got my FX4 L2 axle for $400 but it only had 5k miles on the truck and it was an engine fire that totaled it. I couldn't talk him down either because he knew what he had. Most 8.8s can be let go for 250-350 around here but you don't usually know the mileage on them because they scraped the truck long ago.
^^^ im getting the axle its self for 45 bucks then i have to pay for brake componets im spending less than 100 for the axle why would i go some place else. and im cutting the spring perch off the bottom and put it on the top of the same axle and the f150 ubolts are the some size as the explorer ones
How are you going to get the shock mounts off without messing them up?
