96 front axle pops when turning

Icon5 96 front axle pops when turning

I have a 96 4x4 and when it is in 2 wheel and i am turning it pops like the cv axle is about to break in a front wheel drive car. My question is this, it dont have cz axles it has solid axles with u joints is it the u joints that need changed? Also when i first put it in 4 wheel if i dont take off really easy it like pops and jerks before it will take off, if i take off easy it dont it just goes with no pops or jerks. Please any help would be great. thanks

Change the u-joints. Continue to drive it the way it is will cost you more in the long run.

what do you mean it will cost me more in the long run u joint are only about 20 bucks apiece. Do i have to pull the axle's out to replace them? Do they just pull out once a have the spendle and everything off?

well unlock your hubs first. second like said above change the u joints i just my passenger side it was a piece of cake

my hubs are automatic locking hubs. So i dont have to take the axle out to change them or would it be a lot easier to take them out to change the ujoint

Downey,
My truck has the 3.0 in it with just over 200k i seen that yours is a 4.0 but it has well over 200k does yours seem like it is lacking power. The reason i ask is mine seems like in the lower rpms the power is just not there. What can i do to fix it, i have put new plugs and wires on it what else can i do? My main thing is fixing the u joint at this point, but would like to get the power also.

i am surprised those auto hubs have lasted that long! they are a weak link in the TTB fronts, replace them with warn manuals, this might solve your problem

i dont think i have lost much. but my truck is very well taken of and has only ever soon one time that the oil wasnt changed past 3k miles. if i were you i would get 2 cans of sea foam put half a can in the brake booster half in your oil and a whole can in your gas tank. this will clean out the inside of your motor. but when you put it in your oil you can only run it about 50 miles b4 the oil needs changed.

me too put warn manual hubs on your list now or when you really need 4wd you wont have it. i know its a pain in the *** to get out and lock them but i would rather know i have 4wd instead of guess. but the u joints are about 14 dollars each. i just replace my stock ones yesterday they were a pain in the ***. but my front end feels a lot better. get a set of manual hubs and wheel bearings and new oil seals and have a nice new front end maybe even the ball joints but i know that **** adds up quick but its well worth it. my truck drives much better with new ball joints.

The u-joints are twenty , but if they get bad enough you risk breaking the yokes that the u-joints are pressed into. $$$

i have thought about this a while now and since i am going to be doing all the work in replacing the u joint, locking hubs. i am going to go a head and level the front with the back. i have seen a couple things on hear where they say you can do it for around $250. If that is true where can i get the coils, shocks, and camber spacers for that price. I was about to order it all from summit but it was about 350 not 250 for skyjacker coils, shocks and alignment parts. please if you no where i can get it cheaper please let me no. One last thing i am going to need some tires anyone have any for a good price or no somewhere i can get some cheap. thanks for all the help

you will need to buy a dana 44 hub socket and a dana 35 hub socket.

you need one for the stock bolt and one for the conversion bolts.
