CV Shaft help!

Got my axle nut loose, thought I had the hard part down but the six bolts on that hold the boot to the... well like a front transmission thing (right below the motor where the cv shaft bolts in (on my silverado 6 bolts)

How can I get those bolts loose? They're stuck on like hell, and I can't just use the tire for resistance because the shaft is broken somewhere inside the boot and it rotates freely from the wheel.

I tried sticking a pair of vice grips on the shaft but it just isn't tight enough to hold on, it just slips off.

Any suggestions?

A little more details please....I can't tell if you are talking about the front driveshaft (with CV at transfer case end) or a CV half shaft.....I'm assuming you mean the driveshaft due to the 6 bolts?

It should not spin if the front two tires are on the ground and you still have it bolted to the front yoke. Might want to put it back down if it is jacked up.

Sorry it's the CV half shaft.

I've got the shaft basically disconnected from my driverside tire (axlenut is off, and the splines are free) and there are six bolts that connect the other side to what I assume is the transfercase or something along those lines. (Inner CV joint)

The axle spins because it's broken somewhere inside the outer CV boot and therefor I can't get the bolts off because it just wants to spin with the loose axle (and the rotor, etc)

So I have 6 bolts, I'm just asking for suggestions as to how to hold the shaft still( not allow it to rotate) so I can unbolt these six bolts, and take the whole thing off.

This is what I'm talking about, only mine has 6... I think! Haha!

I know I'd use a strap wrench or even better a chain wrench, not sure if you have one but great time for some new tools!

That shoudl be bolted to a shaft that goes into the front diff. Prob does not help now that you have a tire off, but if you had both tires on the ground and the shafts in, that would hold it.

impact them off, or try and wedge a pry bar inbetween two of the bolts and have someone hold that while loosen the bolts but i vote for the impact

Found a simple solution - flicked the truck into 4x4 and she held up. How dumb of me.
