Dana 35 3rd member removal
 
So im going to harrys next week and planning on getting an explorer axle with 4.10 gears and getting a 3rd member out of a TTB with 4.1o gears so i can regear my truck. i have been looking all over and i cant find a how to or anything like that of how to remove it. i have never done this.

Should just pull the bolts out of the front side of the axle then pull shafts and d-shaft and it should come out

I dont have one just look at your truck it should be the same but im not for sure it shouldnt be that hard.

that would be sweet dude if you could take some pictures of the parts that need to come out. or if you could tear it down and make a how to that would be great too and very helpful thanks a lot man for all the help

your gonna need the allen key for the front d-shaft, remove the driveshaft, front wheels, hubs, auto or manual, ur gonna need the manual socket if equipped, spindles, rotors, pull the drivers axle straight out of the diff, passenger side cut the hose clamp on the boot in the middle of the pass axle and pull outer part of axle out of slip joint on inner axle, loosen the bolts from the front of the diff, and remove with the passenger axle still attached to the diff, your done lol.

Is this a TTB D35? I don't think those have third members, but I am sure that normal IFS Rangers don't have 3rd members... If you're talking about the front differential housing, then yes you pull the housing hangers, remove the driveshaft, and pull out the CV shafts and you should be set.

his is a ttb, the third member is just the pumpkin basically, no cv axles just regular axles with u joints.

Yeah, your going to have to jack up the front end via the frame so the suspension drops down. This will help get the 3rd member out, its a VERY VERY tight fit. It won't seem like its going to come out but with enough time and enough moving it around you will be able to make it come out. Its a huge pain in the ass with the axle shaft attached but its going to come out.

Ok that makes sense. A third member is removable from the differential housing, like a Toyota minitruck axle, suzuki samurai axle, or a Ford 9". From what I understand, the TTB doesn't have that, but instead has a cover for the housing that can be removed to allow access to the gears.

It seems, upon closer inspection, that a TTB axle has something similar (part 3010). That TTB axle sure is a strange beast.

its very strange and very important to keep the maintenance up on it, it does work well but very frustrating to those that dont understand it lol

i dont have to remove the knuckles right the axle shafts will slide out thought the knuckles right?

yea they will slide right thru the holes in the knuckles, its a snug fit but they shoulnt give u any problems

yea i would say half hour to hour max. depending on how well ur tools are laid out and how good the ground is under the truck

my tools will be in a bag and the truck will all ready be in the air so this shouldn't be to bad. is that picture of the "3rd" member of dana 35 or something different?

thats the 35, like i said only special tool u will need is if the truck is equipped with manual hubs, if its auto hubs u can just use big pliars or something on the hub nut. and the rest is just basic sockets.

oh and a nice hammer and a piece of wood to get the spindles off, cuz if they havent been taken off for a while ur gonna be beating them to move them lol

yea unless ur gonna take the half of the axle thats retained by the c clip. but just make sure ur getting a true 35 not the hybrid 28/35 cuz that would suck lol
