differential lock
 
is there any differential lock that can de installed in a 2006 ranger?

really nead this specially with rainny season. just not a fan of using tire chains...

Yes there are some options, i would suggest the powertrax no-slip though if its a daily driver or a slectable like ARB if you have the cash.

it would also be helpful to know what axle you have (7.5 or 8.8), the spline count and i assume you have an open carrier.

im thinking of the arb airlocker.... but i can only affor either front or rear....

you use chains in the rain? what are you having trouble with? on road or off?

i dont have chains... im thinking to put an arb airlocker but i can only put it either on the front or on the rear...

what i meant with the rainny season is that i work on coffee plantations.. so its preatty much alot of mud when it starts raining :P lol...

so my question was if its better to put the airloer on the front differential or on the rear differential

ARB is only for the 31 spline diff. I think that Powertrax is the only one out there for the 28 spline. So the Powertrax requires nothing. It locked when it has torque but unlocks when you turn.

If you only get one I would go for a rear vs a front locker.

I would go rear for mud. Front if you were climbing rocks and stuff.

Powertrax Lock-Right or No-Slip both do the same thing just work differently. The no-slip is more street friendly, but the lock-right is fine for driving around town and stuff. I've put on about 15k miles on my lock-right and I use the truck for work, school, getting aorund town, and wheeling whenever possible, no complaints. If you feel like it go ahead and dish out the extra $$ for the no-slip, I just couldn't justify it. Locker for the rear, definitely.

I just picked up a powertrax locker of Craigs list for $160. I'll make a how to when I install it. It looks pretty easy from the directions.

In line with his original comments, I can confirm tire chains work great in serious mud. I carry at least one pair with me both summer and winter.

Lock the rear before bothering with the front. I've had both and the rear locker made a much bigger difference, plus I didn't worry about breaking CV's with the rear locker.

Rear unless you already have a stock L/S. You should also get some mud tires and don't forget you can air down your tires if you need some extra traction.
