clutch is acting up

ik so over the past few days iv noticed that at times my clutch will be normal with no slack and at times it will be half slack and half clutch. so today i was at the beach and it started acting up again and i thought it was just gona go back to normal like usual...well it didnt. and it was getting harder to shift. so i get home and park it and then go back out in like an hour and i CANT SHIFT IT AT ALL. i turn it off and put it in first and i put the clutch in and start it and it doesnt lurch of any thing and i can still pull off but i probably have like an inch of clutch and the rest is slack. whats going on. its a 1998 ranger 4x4 xtra cab 3.0 5 speed with 163000 of so.

163 on a clutch is pretty good. You might want to do the "new clutch mod"

ok just talked to the old owner and they said that they had put a clutch in it not to long ago. so should i just replace the master and slave. is this the problem people talk about when they say that they have to replace the slave every year?

You need to replace the slave. I would replace the master too. You will have to pull the trans to get it out.
