the aluminum driveshaft was Ford's fix to the slip bump from the yoke unloading when you came to a stop and started accelerating.

If you took it in for that problem in 2002-2003 they just swapped the shaft out to the aluminum one. Or you just received it that way from the factory, like mine.

Later times they jsut took the shaft apart and regreased the slip yoke.

I doubt a v6 ranger is pulling enough torque to do that. But in your case it would be different

Assuming the aluminum driveshaft is strong enough for a Ranger, is it significantly lighter than a steel one? Or are they balanced better? Is there any advantage at all to the aluminum ones?

I took my old POS 2 peice steel driveshaft out and swaped it in with a solid ALUMINUM Drive shaft. It was 5X lighter, alot more smoother, and works just fine.

I thought it was the other way around. I have a manual and an aluminium shaft. Maybe I am lucky.
