LS and friction modifier question

2002 XLT supercab 4x4 with 8.8 rear.

I changed the pinion seal and fluid in the rear a couple months back and used mobil 1 LS gear oil for the oil change. When starting from a dead stop I get a little "chatter" noise that I think is coming from the rear end so I am wondering if it may be that I need to add the friction modifier (I didn't add any because the mobil1 was LS) or if it may be something else.

I will be replacing bearings, seals, and brakes this next weekend since I have a leaky seal so trying to get a diagnosis before the weekend to maybe eliminate the noise. Thanks in advance.

Cheap to try and see if it'll fix the problem! I always added it in my Mustang along with the synthetic gear oil even though the bottle says it's already there.

did you check the pinion depth and make sure it was correct?

He just changed the pinion seal so he shouldnt need to check pinion depth.

Op, did you change the crush sleeve and pinion nut while you were in there?
And how tight did you puth the pinion nut,too tight will cause damage to the bearing, too loose will allow movement of the pinion under load and cause noise and damage.

Did not change the crush sleeve and pinion nut, but rather used the marking of all the positions and counted revolutions for the nut.

Parts still haven't shown up so didn't get to tackle it this weekend. I will surely get it done next weekend and post results after I add the friction modifier and let you know if the chatter subsides.
