F150 shifter?

Total noob here so please be patient with me. I've been reading threrad after thread about changing, modifying the shifter. I have an 08 with the 4.0 and obviously the 5spd. The shifter is way too low for me. I'm not versed in welding and would like a taller shifter. Don't really want to pop on a hurst, mainly because of the price. I read one post that a shifter from a F150 around the same year will bolt right in. I want to know if any one here has done it or know's that it'll bolt right in. Thanks for reading all this dribble

You can just buy a shifter extension. They cost about 15 bucks and take seconds to install. They are basically just a new shift **** with a longer female threaded end.

Thanks for your reply. I Was thinking that but I thought the shifter had splines and the **** was glued on. Is there a specific extension made for it?

They make them for all different styles. Threaded, splined, set screw etc. Basically just search for body lift components for your specific year and there will be a 2-3" shifter extention you can purchase seperately.

Performance accessories shifter shaft extention #3700 seems to be the proper one for your truck. Little more expensive than the regular threaded ones though at about $40 bucks.

Thanks again, didn't think about body lift parts. I'll do some more poking around. Thanks for the tip

No problem, I need to go to the junkyard this week so if you don't find any answers about the actual f150 shifter fitting I'll see if I can find 2 similar year trucks to compare while I'm digging around.

Keep in mind that although u can use the 2in shift extender that is intended for body lifts, that u are also gonna be extending the throw of the shifter....... which is already pretty far...lol Coreshifter makes a Hurst designed shifter with hurst parts minus their base that runs a few dollars less.... oh and if u want the guy will send u the longer shifter arm if u request, versus the standard arm..... The guy makes a nice product, great guy to work with & ships quick..... Trust me before I lifted my truck I too was against spending the $$$$$$ on a new shifter, but after using the extender for awhile, I changed my mind! $$$$$ well spent if u ask me

So, if I understand you right, I just take my shift arm off my tranny and bolt on his? That sounds like a no brainer. Thanks, I'll Google him.

Be careful with this one. Although they bolt using similar hardware, some 5-speeds have the wedge crossways in the truck and some have the wedge fore and aft. Get the wrong combination and the shifter will only install at 90 degrees to where it should be.

I went the opposite way with my V8 swap and installed a 2003 Ranger M5OD-R1HD stick on a 2003 F150 M5OD-R2 trans. It was not a bolt on. I had to grind a new flat 90 degrees off on the F150 shifter stub. Obviously, the exact orientation of the flat is critical for the stick to be in the correct position. It took a bit of care and grinding and checking to get it right.

Also important - since the F150 is a wider truck than the Ranger, its stick is angled several degrees toward the driver to keep it in easy reach. This same offset in a Ranger may put the F150 shifter too close to the driver.

And finally - anything you do that raises the overall height of the shifter **** will increase the shift throws by the same percentage. So, if you prefer shorter throws, this won't be going in the right direction for you.

It’s basically a direct copy of the Hurst design, he makes the custom housing then uses hurst parts in it....if memory serves me right the stick I got was the 090 if u ask him he will know for sure just request a longer shiftarm if u decide to do the Hurst style shift assembly.

I don't want to start grinding and hacking on this thing yet, it only has 35k on it. I don't mind longer shift throws, I practically dislocate my shoulder shifting into 3rd in the 66 I think I'll look into coreshifter with a longer arm. Thanks for all the reply's guys, I appreciate it.
