Feel-her thread!! Expo axle
I still need to do a bunch of research on this but wanted some opinions from y'all while I'm still searching and getting prices.
Before I get my gears installed I would like to swap out the rear and get rotors back there. I have a 94 Explorer w/ 200,000 miles, drum brakes, sitting at my house right now. Do you think it would be better to try and find a newer Expo axle with rotors or convert the Expo axle I have to rotors? What about the price difference? Anyone have experience with this same issue? Thanks. |
I really think it would be worth it finding an axle with disc brakes

go to a junkyard! even the crappy junkyards where i live have expo axles with the disc brakes. Most decent ones Ive seen are around $300 or so with decent mileage (<100k) I was gonna do this mod, but its on hold for now

Why not go with a 9"? The way you beat on your truck might as well go with something strong.

You can rob the brakes from a 95+ expo and put 'em on the 94 and older expo axles....Direct swap. Junkyard should run ya like $50. OR shoot...maybe an axle at your local yard runs like $150, i'd just start new and you'll maybe get a low mile unit too. You'd be like me....but i'm using a Fx4L2 31spline drum and converting to Expo discs.
