Posi or........ also gearing

Ok when i go off-roading with my truck one wheel will just spin will the other one just sits. What do I need so both of them will spin at the same time. Also what would be the right gearing for my truck with 33's? Thanks for the help. Also could you post a link to were you get the gears and a locker or what every will keep both tires spinning at the same time.

a limited slip if you do a majority of your driving on road.....

as far as gearing with 33's and a 3.0, i would say most likely 4.56's........since you probably have 4.10's stock...

search eBay for "8.8 limited slip" for the cheapest price. I just bought a Ford Racing L/S unit for my truck from Summit Racing for $215....

This is the 8.8 axle unit:
http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

This is the 7.5 axle unit:
http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

you have a 28 spline axle. The best way to tell is to look at the tag on the drivers door or door frame. there is a spot that says "AXL or AXLE" and right under that will be either 2 numbers ( like 96) or 1 letter and 1 number (like R6)......when you find that look at this list i put together for the site and find your number. It will tell you what axle you have and your gear ratio....:

https://www.ranger-forums.com/forum2...ad.php?t=37149

buy as far as really what gears you should get, use this formula:

new tire size/old tire size x stock gear ratio = new gear ratio (now you may have to either go up or down to the next gear they make for your truck since they dont make every gear ratio possible)

for example here is what mine would look like from stock to the 35's i am running now:

35/31 x 3.73=4.21 ......since they dont make a 4.21 gear, i went with the next lowest gear which was a 4.56....

that will also be on your door tag....it is most likely in metric so you will have to use this converter to figure out the exact deminsions in inches

Ok so I have a Open 7.5 w/ 3.73 ratio and what would the spline be?

When I did they new tire divide by old tire times curent gear ratio I got 4.558 with the 8 repeting. So a 4.56 would be the right gear ratio for me then?

yes it will.....you will also need an install kit.......i would recommend a master install kit...it has all the bearings in it that way you pretty much have a brand new axle when you are done...

whenever you change the gears, put in a full synthetic lube....that way you dont have to worry about changing it for a while and it has the friction modifier that the L/S unit needs in it already...

that is a the install kit you need!

Make sure you do some research about lockers and limited slips before plunking down you're cash. Often times when your suspension is flexed, a limited slip won't give you any sort of advantage over an open diff.

Remember google is you're friend

It will be driven on the streets and used to go pre-running. The truck will mostly be a pre-runner for the desert so I don't think I have to worry about flexing a whole lot because I am going to be on the gas mostly.

if that is what you are using it for then a limited slip is better for your application...

Well were could I get a limited slip that can take a beating in the desert and then still be able to drive on the street.

Or should I just stick with what I got. My one wheel power to the ground. I won't be doing any slow crawling just wide opne desert.

if you want one that can take a beating then you need a gear driven unit......google a Torsen diff.....they come stock in the Level II's but they also make a 28 spline....i dont know if they make 1 for the 7.5 though.....
