so with the level 2 rear end it comes with disc brakes, 8.8, same width, and all just a higher spline count if im correct?

how about the C clips in the 8.8? I dont think the 9 has those, that would be something worth going to the 9"

you can get C-clip eliminators for the 8.8 for about $100.........if you were to get the eliminators, the 8.8 would be a bad **** axle...

that price doesnt sound half that bad, it would be interesting to see how they work on the 8.8.

CLick this to view ranger wheel base specs

The ranger 8.8, whether its the Level II or not is the same exact width as all other rangers, even for the 7.5. The ranger 8.8 has always been narrower than the explorer. The ranger has not and will not have disk brakes unless the new generation does a rear end makeover (unlikely). The only ranger 8.8 to come with 31 spline axles is the Level II, all other axles in the rangers (7.5 and 8.8) all come with 28 spline axles.

My axle tubes are hella bigger on my 31 spline than my old 28 spline

I think it makes for bigger shafts.

Yep, hence the 31 splines....I dont "think" they try to fit 31 splines on the 28 Sp shaft, thatd be kinda pointless to put smaller spines on it.....

Keep in mind that Mustang GTs (at least the old 5.0s, I've been out of the Mustang scene for a few years) used an 8.8". If they could handle the beatings I put on them with a built V8, you'll have no problem with them in a Ranger. Now I can't exactly say the the same about the crappy T5 and AOD transmissions that they put in the 'stangs! I would think that a 9" would be way too wide to fit under a Ranger without some major modifications. They were mainly used in full size trucks and vans.

Thats a total misconception of what we were refering to. Width being how wide the axle is, now how wide the diameter of the tube/axle is.

Sorry, I figured when posting that knowing the 31 spline axles were physically larger in diameter was a given.

its not hard.. 31 spline is a 31 spline and 8.8 in en explorer has 31spline and so you take the axles off the explorer rear end and pop off everything you need..
