ford ranger p0741

Ok so I will give some backstory, me and a buddy of mine had replaced the motor on my 2003 ford ranger 4.0l sohc and after replacing it and filing it up with fluids we overfilled the tranny a decent amount but realized it later that day so we drained it but we got a code when we test driving it, its throwing the P0741 code what reads -transmission torque converter clutch circuit performance or closed, i have a spare transmission with parts but i dont know what could be wrong we replaced the TCC solenoid and drained the fluid and open checking the fluid there seemed to be a small amount of dirt or gasket material in the pan not metal brand new gasket and fluid were put in not even 500 miles before this, the symptoms i have only appear after driving around for a while-couple miles, but the tranny will rev up and from 1800ish to about 2500 the the OD Off light will blink the rest of the way and then after that it shifts very hard until i clear the code and it happens again.
ok so question time...
has this happened to anybody else? same symptoms or close
next course of action/what to replace next?
am i able to drive without worry of complete tranny damage? i haven't drove it since
