13-50 and 13-54 differences

ok, a couple questions.

first of all, internally, what is the difference strength wise between a 13-50 and 13-54

second, to tell them apart, does anyone have a pic of a 13-50?

I don't know the internal differences but you can easily tell the 1350 because it has a slip yoke front output whereas the 1354 has a fixed yoke.

Believe all 1354's have the threads for the dampner thingy...but i'm not too positive on that. I know all the 1354's i saw at the yard had dampners...including older model rbv's with manual shifters.

ok. tylers has a dampner mount and it has a fixed front yoke. it says 13-54-xxx-xxx on the case, but on the front where it bolts up to the trans it says 13-50-xxx-xxx

i still think it is a 13-54 wooo

shane....we need 13-54 linkage now! lol

uhhhhh...now i gotta go lookin'. i do have two...but....you'll need to make a shift handle for it...it's off an fx4...so it's got threaded holes that are 7/8" apart.

Watch out though. The FX4 linkages won't work on an older 1354 without some modification.

Which piece Ryan? I've got in front of me...a 1350 linkage, a 1354 older linkage, and a 1354 fx4 linkage. only difference between the fx4 and the older 1354 is the piece that bolts to shifter stud stuckin' out the trans. Everything else is the same....the 'shift rails' if you well(the shifter side), the big long pivot.

Shane, I don't know this from experiance but a guy over on explorerforums tried to use the new linkage with the older 1354 and had to modify the end of it. The shift fork on the transfer cases are positioned differently between the new 1354 and the older one.

I could be wrong here though....

There are a couple 1350 with fixed outputs on the front but they are pretty rare to find....

The only fixed output 1350s I have seen are electric shift. That doesn't mean the fixed yoke manual shift 1350s didnt exist though.

The 1350 manual shift with a fixed yoke was from an Ranger STX High Rider edition. I have one sitting in my parents basement.

If i remember correctly, the 1350 is a 4 internal chain drive tc while the 1354 is a 6, however early year 1354 came with 4 chain as well

I just hope we can find the correct shifter linkage...I don't care what the ball looks like, I just want it to be functional.

Awesome. I just need to find the right front driveshaft from a 95-97 Explorer and the shifter linkage and I'm almost good to go.

K K K. Downey.....Tyler.....Justie......i postponed the JY run to sunday. The JY run to look for a front shaft for ya and i'll look for 1354 older style linkage. I've got plenty of shift *****(i probably got 4. lol). Got a few boots.

I think downey's responsible for finding an auto trans/manual tcase bezel and boot. But i'll keep my eyes out for one.

Here's what the shaft will look like....(bottom shaft, but it'll be longer than pictured...mines shortened for an adaptor)
