Front DS question

probably a stupid question, and i know what yall are probably gonna say. but I'm seriously considering what I'm about to ask.

Can i cut the little tabs off the double cardan joint of my front chevy DS? I was looking at a driveshaft on a Jeep and something else at work and noticed they didn't have any such tabs, or areas cast into the joint to limit its travel..

I need to either do this or get a new driveshaft.. so whats the worst that could happen?

hopefully you know what I'm talking about

do ti but use a flapper wheel, a grinding disk will cut into it too fast and leave grooves.
