5 speed reverse sensor....

Problem after the horrible clutch install......

Reverse lights were not always coming on when truck was put in reverse, now not at all. It is not the wiring, as my manual overide switch still works fine.

So, anyone know if the sensor on the trans can go bad, and if so, how to replace? It is the two prong red one, right? I was fooling around with that connection before it stopped working completely, and could get it to work when wiggling.

Also, anyone with the Ford CD that covers 2001 Rangers could you please PM me, as I've lost mine. Thanks!

The reverse switch is up high on the DS of the transmission with black/pink and violet/orange wires. I havent replaced one but my guess is that it screws into a threaded boss in side of the shifter plate.

For anyone in the future with this problem, here's what I have so far.....

It is thread into the trans, it's a 24mm. It's a ball that is pushed in when put into reverse, completing the circuit on the harness.

I figure it is the sensor itself b/c.....I get no continuity when pressing the ball in, and when I jump the harness with a piece of wire it activates the relay for reverse lights. Harness is also giving me 12v. That's the easy way to tell if the problem is on the sensor side or on the wiring/relay side.

So off to the dealer tomorrow for yet another nickel and dime part....

Any luck with this? Ive done all the same, and even hooked up old/new switch to the harness w/o being threaded in. My switch works fine, but it seems its not contacting inside the shifter plate?

Yup. it was the switch. There should be a rod that pushes that ball in, completing the circuit. Not sure how that goes bad though....
