Slave cylinder

I bled my clutch over the weekend. It was very easy, I used the gravity bleed method. I noticed that when I loosened the bleeder on the slave that the bleeder extension is loose. I was able to wiggle it a little. The hydraulic line extension can also be wiggled. Do I need to replace my slave cylinder? I am worried that it may break. Is it possible to change the slave cylinder without dropping the transmission?

Mine was loose the other day when I was underneath the truck bleeding it so I had it replaced. It is a pain because you have to drop the tranny to get full access to it.

.....and if the slave leaks.....be prepared to replace the clutch, and resurface the flywheel.
The slaves are a plastic POS!!!!

there has to be room for flex in the hydraulic lines....if not when the engine/trans revs and rotates, you will break things......mine has some play in it, and has since it was new........

Yes, it's normal for it to wiggle a little. It's not normal however if when you wiggle it fluid runs out. Yes, the transmission needs to be pulled in order to access the slave cylinder.....BUMMER!

I am glad to hear that there should be some wiggle in it. I hope that I don't have to replace it any time soon. How long do they normally last before they need replacement? My truck has 172k on it and as far as I know it is original.

Crawl under there and wiggle it and watch to see if you can see any fluid leaking...thats the best bet to tell if it is going to need replaced or not. Mine just went out at 110xxx but I couldn't tell you what the "normal" expectancy out of one is.

My Ranger went 200,000 on the original one before I needed to replace it.

Mine died at 95K. I bought the truck when it had 35k on it so I don't know if it has been changed before.
