Diagnostic please: Gettin' hard to shift...

It seems that in order to get my truck to shift into any kind of gear I have to push the clutch THROUGH the floor practically. Ok, ok... I really do have like a 1/2" to play with down there... on good days. I can't be moving forward, stop, then shift into reverse regularly. I have to shut off the truck and change into reverse or it'll grind too bad.

So...

The Specs:
> 1996 Ford Ranger xlt
> 5-speed manual
> 2.3L, 4-cylinder
> 112,000 miles

What could be goin' on? What's it gonna take in order to fix this? Thinking it's the slave cylinder... how bad is it to drop everything and fix the stuff...

Any help on this would be much appreciated!

Does your master cyl make any noise? Like when you push the pedal, is it loud? MAkings noise? If it is, your issue is the master cyl.

Your clutch is doing exactly what mine has done several times. Bleed it and see if it fixes it temperarily.

1 of the following is wrong: Clutch Master Cyl or Clutch Slave Cyl.

Droppin' the trans ain't that hard.

I'd suggest that:

1. check the fluid in your in clutch master cylinder.

2. check the fluid in your transmission.

you have air in the line, its a sign of the trans slave cylinder on its way out, u can probably bleed it out and itll be good for a little while, but ever truck ive ever had/seen that problem on bleeding the clutch was only temporary solution...

Fluid in the master cylinder is fine and I haven't done anything that would warrant air getting into the line.
