i have no experience with aftermarket lockers, but an l/s axle could be obtained for pretty cheap at a j/y. like seed mentioned u could go with an expo axle. they have disk brakes from 95+ on I believe and if just a 2wd truck you could lower the truck in the rear by simply bolting up the axle due to them being a spring under axle

I would see if he'd come down in price at all. Any money you throw at that 7.5 might be a waste. What are your plans with this truck? The 4.10s are good for some lift and 31's. However if you wanna lower it and put some 17's w/low profile rubber, then 4.10 years might be too high for you and an axle w/ 3.73 or 3.55 might be a better option.
Make a sig too so we know what equipment/ options your truck has. It makes it easier.

This will be my daily driver. It will see road use 95% of the time and any off road use will be going to the landfill or down dirt access roads. I'm really not too hard on it, just get tired of spinning the inside tire when it's wet. What's weak on the 7.5 axles anyways? Read on a few sites where it was the spider gears, any insight on that? I'll be searching for answers to these questions as well, just thought i would throw it out there.
Everything i'm looking at in the less than 100k miles range is $350 and up. That includes 8.8 ranger and expo rear ends. Is that out of the ordinary? Am i looking in the wrong spots? My main place is car-part.com. Any other good places to scour for this stuff?
I was also looking at this guy, any good?

I'm not sure what makes the 7.5 a weaker axle. It might have to do with the shaft size and I think I've heard something about the gears also. I do know that people swap them if they wheel alot. If your truck is 2wd and will never see trails that might be a better choice for you.
Bump for a nice truck and hopes for 7.5 info.

The 7.5 28 spline runs the same axles as the 8.8 28 spline, difference is all in the ring gear size. Bigger gear more power handling.
The 31 spline fx4 unit has bigger axle tubes making the housing stronger.
FWIW, mustang guys can run 400hp though the 7.5 but its a little lighter than the ranger. Also the axle wont be used on one wheel like when you off road.
IMHO, being South Carlina running on the street I don't see the need for an L/S as long as this is a DD.

The FX4 Torsen limited slip is very desirable. $400 isn't too bad actually considering it has disc brakes, 31 spline axles, bigger bearings ect ect.
I'd pick that up in a heart beat. Save yourself some work from welding new perches and shock mounts on an expo axle.
It is basically the same thing as an exploder axle, with the spring perches flipped, and new shock mounts welded on.
Scoop that sucker up and you'll be money ahead.
**** I have over $1000 into a JY expo axle and I did half the work myself.

I am also going to say that $400 for a Torsen LSD and 8.8 that will directly bolt in is a good deal, if you are concerned about the mileage, inspect the gears before you buy.
I also thought about getting an EXPO rear end but the extra work to end up with a narrower rear is just not worth it...

For all intensive purposes the are the same as the Ranger's WMS to WMS.
Where do you guys get all your mis-information?

Guy started getting all wishy washy on me with the price so I moved on. Decided that the toughest duty it will get might be a donut in a field or a muddy road so decided to stick with the 7.5" rear end for now and slap the ford racing lsd in there. Install went well and am happy with the results. Won't be spinning wheels in the air with this truck so no too worried about strength. We'll see if I have to eat those words down the road, but so far i'm happy with my decision.
Currently getting the parts together for an OEM power window swap. That's for another thread though. :-)
