gears for a ranger

hi i have a 96 ford ranger 3.0 5 speed 4x4. i plan on puting a 6inch lift on it and run 31 and maybee 33 and when i take it out in the mountains maybee 35 if they will clear. but i very seldom take it out. i mostly drive it to work and back it is my daily and only driver. and it is highway most of the time. so i was needing to no what gears would be best to run and were i can buy them at. it has the 7.5 rear and i thank it has the 35 front. it came with 215 factorys and it has 235 so in 5th gear it doesnt have that much hill power. i mostly want it high and look good and still run god if not better.

get 4.10 for 31's, 4.56 for 33's, and 4.88 for 35's. Look into swaping out your 7.5 for an explorer 8.8. Its really not worth it to put gears in your 7.5, specially with bigger tires. I shopped around alot for gears and I got a really good deal on 4.88 yukon gear. Complete Off road was the place, I called them and they gave me a deal.

what gears are in it now? look on the door sticker or axle for the code and someone here can decode it when you post.
5th is o/d. you should downshift if you need to pass or climb quicker.

your cheapest option like troy said would be swap out for a 8.8 but make sure your gears match front to back. otherwise you'd be buying a 8.8 axle and new gears for both the front and rear. that from what i read gets costly quick.
another option would be to find a wrecked 4x4 and swap out both axles so they match and you get a 8.8.

i fount the code on the internet is is a 373 limited slip. i also seen that it came with 215 75 15 and it has 235 75 15. i figure thats why i dont have that much power and its a little hard on gas.

you shouldn't notice a difference with the tire sizes. it's only off 4.3% and is just over an inch larger.

when was the last time a tune up was done?

Here's the place Complete Off Road | Your Source for Off Road Parts - Axles - Driveline Parts and More
There phone number is 563-583-5363

I ordered my 4.88 for my 8.8 and my ifs dana 35 both with master install kits, and got a discount. Just give them a call they were really good to work with. Ask for a package discount. I would really recomend if your tearing everything apart anyway, might as well get the master install kits and replace some things. If your having someone install them for you ( I would really recomend it, unless your very mechanical) make sure you shop around. Ford whated $900 labor and I found an ex ford mechanic that would do if for $300. The 8.8 swap would be way cheaper if you only want 4.10's then you just have to regear the front.
