chromalloy or other beefier axles
Just wondering if anyone know if there are any chromalloy or other beefier axles out there on the market. I was thinking it would be cheeper and just as strong to go with a 28 spline chromalloy axle then to upgrade the whole rearend to a 31 or better spline setup.
an how the front any upgrades at all for the front ?
Good idea Bad idea ?

Before I got the Rubicon I was going to get some Moser shafts for the rear. They were really the only C clip shafts I coudl find. Here's the link....

Nothing for the front though, unless there is something custom out there.

A c-Clip eliminator kit will not necessarily make it stronger, just retain the axle shaft if it breaks.
I know Warn used to make a full floater kit for the 8.8, but not anymore. Maybe you could dig one up, but I'd just go with the new 28 spline shafts.

Even with 4.56 gears, you have to grind a flat on the pin to get it out far enough past the ring gear teeth to get the axles in. I know this because I got bit by it when I did my axle and had to take the ring gear back off the diff to get the pin out and grind it! Pain in the butt.
I suspect with 5.13 gears in a c-clip axle, you'd have to grind the pin more than is safe or practical to get it out. You'd want to go to a c-clip eliminator on the rear if you go to a really high ratio, I would think.

well, keep in mind that you have a D35 gearset in the front. I'm pretty sure you can buy gears lower than 4.56 (numerically higher) for that diff. So many jeeps run it I can't see why not, but your housing is different than their's, so be sure to research.
also keep in mind that I TRASHED my rear 28 spline while in 4Lo with only 4.10 and 32" tires. Broken shaft, destroyed driver side carrier bearing/carrier was my fun.
5.13's with 35" tires AND 4Lo may introduce a whole new problem...so you may need to go real easy on the gas when in 4Lo even with CroMo shafts, they are still only 28 spline.

thats good to know, I am not sure if I am going for 5.13, maybe 4.88's at the most, I guess I am just thinking, I went this big and its good so more must be better and I am feeling out what it would/will it take to go bigger.
I think 4.88 gears and 38 inch tires could be alot of fun.
What would it take to do a 31 spline or bigger swap

ok a few points, moser makes the shafts yes, you cannot install5:13s in the frnt, they wll not fit. Its be overall wiser to do an exploder swap to get the 31 spline AND disc brakes. do the buildup on the axle out of the truck, and add the eliminator kit. You can find people that will custom make front shafts, put expect to pay out the butt. And 38s with an IFS front is just STUPID. IT WILL NOT HANDLE IT. if you get away with 35s your somewhat lucky but dont start getting tire happy. Even if you swap the rear end with a 31 spine spolder axle 38s are just dumb. you want to get that into SAS it like jey.

Yeah like I said I don't really want to go for 5.13 john was suggesting it but I would not want to go that big anyway, Whats the biggest that will fit in the front ?
Whats wrong with 38's and an IFS, its a trail truck, its what I got and I want as much height as I can get, I can see how easy a SAS is, I am sure Jey thought he would be done by now serveral times. I honestly don't care if you think its stupid, its not your truck, I think taking your doors off is stupid
I heard this same kind of thing before the 35's and BL everyone said It couldn't be done, when it was already done by Jey, I got my 35's and BL and I just wanna know whats it take to go bigger.

give it time, your maxed out torsion bars will sag with every trip you go wheeling. and every time you do a stuffed flex, youll rip more and more fender flares off. mark my words
not being a dick here man, just shootin you straight!

my parents have a 1995 bronco i am considering buying but its to nice to be considered a beater, it would make a nice show truck.
I deffently learn a lot in my 2 post about IFS and bigger then 35 tires and now i most deffently have a good understanding now, and know what needs to be done.

like I said before man, youre going to be REAL impressed on where you can go on some 35s, a good 5 inches or so of lift and some lockers. and of course a good driver.
you will impress everyone including youself. pair that with some beefed internals, good body armour and man youre goin places!!!

Ya, when i finish the SAS i'm going to start gather tube and planning the cage.
I'd run 37's comfortably on IFS if you don't wheel it hard. They do make up to 4.88 gears for our d35 hybrid front axle. I'd run 4.88's front and rear, lunch box lockers front and rear and you'd be unstoppable if the stuff you wheel in.
