Adding fluid

Hey all,

New here and have a question. I found a thread somewhere else that doesn't really give a definitive answer to the question. The questions was (to the effect)...

"Can I add trans fluid by removing the shifter and adding it through the top (remove shifter top plate)?"

I understand that if it can be done I would need to pull the plug as not to overfill.

Is this possible?

thats the way i do it every time. suction pumps never worked for me. I poured the first 2 quarts in, the had someone slowly pour the 3rd while i was under the truck waiting for it to come out the fill plug, when it did, i said to stop pouring, and put the plug in. Then put it all back together.
