Hawk HP brake pads, any reviews?
I found a set I could get for around $50 new and was wondering what you think about this model? Also, how does it handle the dust?
Thanks: Matt |
ive always heard the best thnigs about hawk pads...
|
I put them on a few months ago...AWESOME pads, granted, old pads suck anyway. But these pads are QUIET. Quieter than heck. I picked up the HPS series for about $55 shipped to my door(special order so they just shipped it). Man....it felt GOOOOD when I was "breaking" them in. Stops on a dime now. It's a Braking Bohemeth!! Ever seen Starsky & Hutch movie........DO IT.....DO IT. DO IT.

where did you guys find the hawk pads so cheap? is it the HPS compound?
|
Mine stop on a dime, I don't know if its the pads or the slotted rotors that are causing it to squeak like an old chevette.
|
I have not use Hawk pads on a street vehicle but I did not like them on my race car and I am sure that was a totally different compound.
|
wagner or bendix...for a cheaper altenrative.
|
Bendix are a great value. (By value, I mean their quality is excellent, and their price does not reflect it at all.)

I loved my hawk hps pads but because of sticky calipers, the sound deadning piece they put on the back of the pad pealed off and I had to RMA my hawk pads after 7 months (They have a lifetime warranty). Before my calipers decided to take a dump, they were awesome. I have a replacement set but I haven't had time to put them on, I'm using the normal motorcrap pads and they are night and day difference, hawk pads are 10x better. I picked them up from TireRack for 56 bucks I think. :biggthump :biggthump

Well, went ahead and bought them from truckperformance on clearence for $43.61, but shipped in 2 days for $62.60 total. Thanks
So, that means I added to my to do list next friday to change: fuel filter amsoil oil filter and brake pads Good thing I bought the new Chiles repair book for my truck. |
Make sure you use antisqueal on the back of the pads before you installed them. I didn't and its only a matter of when I'll have time to take my brakes apart and add some.
|
i actually had them but i had to send them back because i got croll-drill and slotted rotors and the tech said the rotors would eat them in a month.. :(

Is that anntisqueal something common in a autoparts store? Thanks for the heads up. |
if the pads have shims, i never lube the back of the pad, what you need to make sure you do is clean and lube the caliper slide bolts and the cailper where the pads slide. You as well replace those thin metal shims, they are so cheap.

Just make sure you don't put anything on the pad SURFACE. Just a reminder, often times people forget and smear a little on the pad or just are sloppy with it and it gets on pad or rotor. It can and does cause problems, your pads and rotors need to be "clean"!!!
