Traction Device - Detroit Tru-Trac Diff
OK so here is the scoop.
From an old project, I happen to have a brand new 9" "Detroit Tru-Trac No-Spin Diff” (taken from the box) for a 9”er.
I can get a 9” Housing but it will need some brackets welded on and I know an 8.8 is close and would more than do for my application but what are the thoughts of two things:
1) Opinions on the Detroit Tru-Trac Limited Slip Differential ?
2) A 9” in the rear of a Ranger vs the 8.8, even an OEM small bearing 8.8 like I have in the EDGE now ?
The Tru-Trac would cost around the 450 - 500 $$$ range so I wouldn’t have to paid for it, the housing is cheap, cut down $200 ouch, the axles are the only thing that will cost the extra $$$, 31 spline axles needed, ??$$$.
I have been looking for an FX4 Rear Axle (cheap) but nothing worth the money and then I found the Tru-Trac, which I had forgotten about, in the upstairs of the barn, just thinking on it.
Please let me know what you think ?

I think I saw a price on the web for $500, $400 would be nice but I need to talk to one person first about his 8.8 out of a Lvl II.
