That's not a sentence....... are you asking if you have 4.10s and 33s will your mileage go down?? If anything I believe your mileage will go up from having 33s with 3.73 but you'll probably go down from stock mpg.... either way you should probably turn that into a real sentence so someone with more knowledge can understand and therefore answer you......

 

I have 33's with 4.10's and i get an average of 260 miles highway and city on one tank befor the low fuel light comes on. if u are worried about gas mileage bigger tires arent the way to go.

Man, I swear something is wrong with my truck. I have 33's on it now, but it still only 13.5-14 mpg. WTF?

On the highway, you'll likely see higher mpg's with 4.10 and 33's. In the city, you'll likely see lower mpg's with 4.10 and 33's. Both only slightly(1 mpg difference in city, MAYBE 2 on the highway). BUT...bump it up to 35's, and your highway rpm is dropped too low using the stock 4.10 gearing, and you'll lose mpg and drivability.

What engine are you running?? Reason I ask, is that a 4.0 can overcome the 33's with 4.10, or even 3.73. 4.0 can almost overcome 35's and 4.10 as well....if you've got a 3.0, I suggest 4.56's if your bank account allows. If 4cyl, go 4.88 or AT LEAST 4.56. I based that first paragraph(if you want to call it that) on having a 4.0L SOHC. General rule of thumb: the more powerful the engine, the easier it is to overcome effective ratio change from the install of larger tires on the existing gear ratio. Smaller the engine, the lower the gearing. Bigger the engine, the higher the gearing. Hope that made sense.


My truck began life as 4.10 and 30.5" tires. I am currently 4.88 and 34.8(35") tires...I've gotten my BEST mileage out of the 4.10 and 32x11.50s...and i'm getting almost as good numbers with my 4.88 and 35's. Overall average of about 16.5. Currently at 65mph, I'm pullin 20-21 mpgs in 5th gear. Thank you scangaugeII. It's tought me ALOT about fuel consumption. Shoot....the tank after getting the scangaugeII, I jumped 2 mpgs JUST by paying attention to the scangauge.


remember...your odometer and speedometer are reading lower than you actually are going/traveling/went/etc. My truck back when it had 4.10's and 35's, when I computed mileage, I always multiplied the trip odo by 1.10 to get actual miles traveled....odometer was 10% off because of the larger rolling stock. Same goes for anyone with larger than stock tires on the stock gear ratio, but the percentage difference will be different.

Your 260 is actually 286 if it were 4.10 and 34.8's(35's).

How do you know he's not already compensating for it?? My odometer reads about 208 or so when I fill the tank meaning I really went about 232.... that 260 sounds about right if he has 4.10s instead of my 3.73......... right??

 

Looking at his/her location they are French Canadian, hence the crappy english.

sorry... but that's not what I've seen.

I had 3.73's with 35's and a 3.0 (yeah yeah yeah )... got 20-22 mpg highway, went to 4.88's and 35's now it's 10-12 mpg highway (<I'm afraid to actually check it in the city.)

Before any of that I had 31's with the 3.73's, mpg was around 18-20, when I put the 35's on my mpg WENT UP, NOT DOWN.

However when I went to 4.88's with the 35's it dropped significantly.

BTW... that is figuring in for the gears, tires, speedo, odometer, etc.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that bone stock I got around 16-18 mpg highway...

 

I'm assuming he's not...some dont even think about it. I was playing it safe.

I dont know what to tell you, Dustin. You may have that optimum powerband for higher gearing and large tires, like the 4.0L OHV's do. Nice low end grunt....something the 4.0L SOHC does not have.

Could it be possible with the 3.73s and 35's, you were not in overdrive? but now you are, with more RPM's? I know on my engine, at 2000rpm, I can hold my speed on the freeway as-is....but with 4.10s and 35's, I was down in the 1300 range in 5th, sort of a dog on the highway.

if you want to lift a truck and put bigger tires on it, you shouldn't be worried about fuel mileage.

I gave up on fuel mileage when i decided i wanted a truck.. i further gave up on even caring what my milege was once i got 35s and the 4.88s.. I'm just tired of people buying a truck, lifting it then b!tching about their fuel economy.

 

ok so I've got a 4.0 OHV with 33's and 3.73 gears. what would I multiply the trip odometer to get my Actual MPG? And would a speedo recalibrator get the trip odometer to read correctly?

I'm just curious as to what my MPG is like now with my new setup.

 

its a truck who cares what mpg you get. no matter how you look at it rangers are not the most fuel efficient trucks on the road. if you want mpg drive a prius. lifting a truck and fuel milage just dont go together. so stop asking. its the same answer everytime, it sucks.

 

You just wasted time posting that because obviously that doesn't answer any of our questions. You might not care about MPG but some of us do b/c are wallets aren't heavy like yours might be. And I don't think a Prius will do well in the Landscaping business.

I used to agree that lifting a truck was stupid if you care about mpg... but after lifting my truck I've learned... I don't expect my mpg to be GOOD... but it doesn't mean I'm going to rally it all over. I want to get the best mpg I can... but I know not to expect anything over 19....

 

What was your stock tire size? Mine was 245/75R16(30.5), then the 35's went on, and that change was right about 10% in diameter. Figure out the difference between your stock vs. new tires, there's what you multiply your trip by.

Recalibrater is a waste of money IMO...when all you gotta do is get a cell phone out and multiply your trip odo to figure out average fuel mileage. I will say though, when I got my scangaugeII, I jumped up 2mpgs average because I learned how fuel consumption worked. That extra I picked up more than paid for the neat gadget within only a few months.

 

I have a 06 FX4 4.0L V6 Automatic with 33x12.50 tires with stock ratio (4.10) = (with the 33 it equals to about 3.60 i belive)
So when ever i go up to my chalet its nothing but hills and its horrible since im always downshifting.
Now im going to regear it but would i get better fuel milage regearing it to 4.56 or 4.88?
I got my quad in the back and i have to do a few hours on the highway, im rarely over 115km/h (70mph) its a DD so 33's is the max tire size im ever going to put on it.
What would you all recommend?

 

ford offers a 4.30 or something close to that. i would go with that.

 

4.56 is suggested...but certainly not required for just 33's. 4.10 does just very nicely...some report BETTER mileage with slightly larger than stock tires while retaining the same gear. Ask yourself: is having a slightly more drivable truck worth the $1200 or so for both front and rear???

You can get a 4.30 gearset for the rear...and the rear only. Not the front...so that ratio is not an option on 4x4's.
