HELP, trans issues BL sport trac
just did a 3" BL on my buddy's 02 sport trac, he drove it to work for the first time today, since the lift, his OD off light is flashing and the transmission is shifting hard, any idea what's wrong with it?
02 sport trac, 4L SOHC auto trans 4x4 (auto t/c) tow package. we had to extend the transmission aux cooler lines, and couldn't find the proper lines, so we had to cut it and use threaded pieces of tubing designed for house lights (i forget the proper name) it fit perfect, and is a tight fit... he said he noticed it shifting hard right off the bat, and the od light a little while later, but not long after leaving his place |
did you check the tranny fluid level? when my levels were low it would shift hard and the OD light would come on, after i added fluid it was back to normal
|
he said he checked it, and that it was good, but he would check it again after he had been driving for a little...
|
I would still expect the trans fluid level is not right. Make sure he is checking the level the way that the manual says.
I did not have to extend that trans cooler lines on my Sport Trac (they were tight but secure), so of course I didn't have any issues. |
his lines are old and leaking, we didn't want to put the extra stress on them by stretching them, we extended them, and he's going to replace them with new lines when we get a chance... he's going to check the fluid again. he also talked to his father, who is a mechanic for ford, who said to check the connections on the wiring harnesses, i think he means the one on the t/c, as we moved that around, but my buddy is going to check the t/c harness and transmission harness, make sure the plugs are clean, make sure they are clipped in fully, and reset all codes by disconnecting the battery, and see if it solves the problem
|
update, just talked to him, he talked to his dad again, who is going to talk to a ford transmission guy, tomorrow. he is at work right now so can't drive his personal vehicle, but will drive it home and check the fluid when he gets home from work (so it's nice and hot)
only thing i can think right now is when we cut the lines, air got in, and tripped a sensor that showed low fluid or something... |
so his fluid is full, engine running and hot, in park... any more thoughs?
|
he went to pull codes, no codes found... any idea how to pull transmission codes?
anyone have ANY idea what could cause this? it started immediately after the lift, and has persisted since... |
check the shift cable, it could have come undone at the trans from lifting the cab too high
|
if that were though, he wouldn't be able to get it out of park... would he? i'll get him to check it regardless though
|
My shift cable was pulled tight as well but everything worked fine. I'm assuming he has checked and re-checked all of the wiring?
Is it possible that one of the hoses to/from the cooler is collapsed or blocked? Maybe he just did something stupid on accident, like put it in 2nd instead of drive and over-heated the trans or something? |
CHECK THE SHIFT CABLE just because it moves does not mean it is not adjusted properly or broken, if the manual valve is in the middle of N and D or D and 3 it will cause problems
check the cooler as brianjwilson says, im sure its something stupid of the BL was installed in canada |
shift cable checked, park, linkage has slack (wiggles up and down) neutral has slack (same) drive (same)...
|
not sure what you mean, the cable is not pulled tight? thats a good thing
what you need to check is that the cable is clipped in to the bracket on the side of the trans properly |
