jack the rear end up and turn one of the wheels, if the other side turns the same way it has a limited slip, if it turns the opposite way then it has an open or a worn out limited slip.
also make sure the truck is in park or in gear.

if it is in park or in gear, then the rear end wont turn but about a 1/16 of a turn....not enough to engage the L/S unit...

There's also a tag on the safety tag that lets you know as long as the axle has never been modified. I think it's on near the door lock on the driver side door. That's how I figured out mine.

Here's a link the page that helped me out over on TRS.

^^^^ Remember tho that doing a brake torque doesnt mean anything on an older ranger, I have LS and it is on its way out, f*cking Ford differentials.......

Check the tag to be sure....
