axle install complete

Well I finished installing the new explorer axle with a Detroit E-Z locker and 4.56 Gears. Well almost finished I just need to bleed the brakes tomorrow and then I will be 100% done. Can't wait to drive it.

I will post a pic tomorrow.

Here is the story of my weekend.

Friday
Got home from work about 3:30. Put the truck up on blocks, took off tires, and lossened all the bolts I would have to remove. Then got cleaned up for the friends we had over for dinner Friday night.

Saturday
8:30am went to autoparts store to get rear pads, a flaring tool, diff fluid, and a brake hose. Ended up going to 2 stores.
Got home and started taking everything apart. When I got to the driveshaft bolts I realize I need a 12pt 12mm wrench or socket. I have neither. Pumped up bicycle tires and rode my bike to autoparts store....I had to install the new axle temporarily in order to tack weld the spring perches at the correct angle in relation to the driveshaft angle. I checked everything before tack welding the perches but didn't double check...So I had to knock off the welds set everything back up and do it all over. Of course I didn't notice my mistake until I had the axle 90% of the way back out. Because of my working conditions and the short extension cord on the welder this mistake ended up costing me close to 2 hours of time. I was working by myself and had to push the truck back and forth in the driveway because I didn't want to be welding 5 feet from my truck when I was welding on the perches and shock brackets.
Went to bed at 11pm. I took many breaks and stopped for lunch dinner snacks, and drinks throughout the day. So I didn't work straight through but for a good amount of the day.

Sunday
Woke up at 7:45 was finishing my welds. Took it very slow because it was over 90* today. The heat really slowed me down. I was working in the sun for most of the day and couldn't take standing in it for more than 30 minutes at a time. I had to take the speed sensor gear out of the old axle and put it in the new axle which was a nice long task. Had to put the carrier in the freezer which my wife loved. By the time I got the axle together and in the truck it was 7pm. Day sucked but it is in there.

damn, sounds like a pain. When I did my explorer axle swap it wasn't that hard really. I didn't tear the gears apart or anything but I did change the fluid and look over everything. Welding the perches and shock mounts wasn't hard at all either.

Nah. I am going to have to wait on that. I am not too sure how long it will take me so I want to save it for a weekend. I am hoping someone can come and give me a hand.

I prolly will get to it in two weeks. This coming weekend I am going out to Ohio so I will not be able to do it. Unfortunately I was hoping I could go wheeling in two weeks since I have a 5 day weekend with the 4th and all but I will have to put the front diff in first.

LOL, I've been driving for about a month without being able to use my 4x4, 3.73's up front and 4.10's out back.
