What would need to be done about this?

I have not changed trans fluid yet, and was wondering if I should run a leak stop prior to changing the fluid, or to change it and see if it stops leaking?

It doesn't leave any signs while parked of a leak, but I imagine while driving it leaks a bit.

Rear trannie seal, I've had mine replaced about 4 times, and its leaking again, I think its basically drop drive shaft, replace seal.

I can't find the 'rear transmission seal' on any parts store websites...

Is this something I could easily do at home?

I sprayed up the area, cleaned it up, we'll see how long it takes for A/T fluid to show back up.

I had the dealer do it. Cost like $90. Seal cost was $13 or something like that.

"Transmission output seal" on the receipt.

Replacing that seal is super easy. Do it yourself.

do it yourself "tailshaft seal" mark and remove the driveshaft, seal out, seal in, install driveshaft

It's back after the 30 mile drive, nearly exactly the same look.


This whole measure, mark, drop thing sounds easier than it looks...

So basically I just draw a line, and then line up that line while installing?

And where is this rear seal at?

I'm not having a good mechanical/technical day today with the tranny.

ive got this same leak!! more info would be nice. do u have to drain any fluids beforehand? and just drop the driveshaft, and the seals right there? also is this what i would buy to fix this leak...

rangerluc yours is 4x4 it is different

to the OP....i is as easy as it looks...mark the driveshafts orientation on the pinion flange at the rear axle before removing it

sorry to post up in ur thread josh...but is it still something i can do even though i have 4x4? my leak looks exactly the same as the OP's pic

you will need to remove the driveshaft, zip the tcase flange off and replace the seal

using the same seal as the one i posted above?

the one you posted is for a f-150 you need this one

and put loctite on the splines of the output shaft before installing the flange

NP rangerluc, this thread was for informative purposes, it has proven that it is informable... lol

I might be doing this as well since I already have to replace the rear diff pinion seal... Any way of checking other than leaking transmission fluid?

Update. I just looked under my truck because I was going to replace the transmission mount. Same LEAK as pictured above.

Just want to verify that this seal will fit the 2.3L auto before I order it.

IF I scroll down to Transfer case I see output shaft seal however nothing indicating RWD...etc.. all for 4wd.?

Want to amek sure I get the right thing.
