installed a Camburg transmission crossmember today
 

well I went into camburg and bought thier a-arm ranger transmission crossmember last week and installed it saturday.

The install wasn't very hard, most of the problems I had were due to the "helpers" I had. They aren't even very good with handing me tools lol.

The end tabs on the crossmember weren't straight so I had to bend them out about an 1/8" on each side with a vise. The support bars coming off the main part of the crossmember require a 1/2" hole to be drilled then you secure them with the supplied bolts and washers.

After the install the chassis felt noticably stiffer especially when coming out of a driveway at an angle or through uneaven bumps in the road. I highly recomend getting this crossmember for any 98+ ranger from a 4/6 drop like I have to any style of lifted ranger.

$289, they have the 3bolt style like my truck has in stock but the 4bolt ones are on backorder I think.

edit: The crossmember only fits 98+ coil spring 2wd trucks, I do not know if it fits a manual transmission too.

That little bit of triangulation looks like it would help alot.

What exactly is the purpose of this besides tying the frame together better? Is that important for a lowered truck? I'd think it'd be good to have for a lifted/prerunner truck, but what purpose does it serve for a dropped one?

it provides the same benefits for a lowered truck as it would with a lifted truck. The x-member stiffens the frame and helps with handling whether you are up or down. It also hugs closer to the frame so anyone with a similar drop to what I have will provide more ground clearance. It won't do a damn thing for bagged trucks tho. It will scrape just like the stock one would in that setup.

My truck isn't lowered for looks it's lowered for better stability at highspeed (for a truck) driving on pavement.
