Icon4 My Tranny Woes

i just bought a 94 ranger 4x4 and i think the hydraulic clutch is going out... the tranny is not synching when i am stopped put the gear in to nuetral and the when i go to put it back in first to take off it won't go into gear... so i have to put it into reverse and then the tranny will slip into gear.... has anyone heard of this.... please help..

Search slave cylinder, its a common problem on a manual, trust me I have had it too...

so should i take it to a tranny shop.... or a mechanic...

Depends, it isn't that hard to do yourself, but the trans will need to come out. It will cost you a hell of allot more to take it some place, but its what you feel comfortable with...

i hate to pick your brain... but about how much do you think it will cost to have a mech. do it...

well my parents got a quote for ares to be done for about $1500. It came to like I think $3000 for them to do the clutch and all that and the oil pan seal. Lets see I got all the parts for about $500 and did it myself. Really taking the transmission out isn't the hard part but PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!! spray everything down every day for a week before you take it off and if you have a power washer wash everything under the truck before you start. God I should have done both those things before I did mine. I can take my transmission out in just under 2 hours with the help of something.
