Large joy from small job

Yesterday I drain & filled my 2005 FX4's transfer case. While 48K isn't high mileage it is well over the 30K service interval I've read about here.....and it's 15 years old!

The old fluid was REAL DARK red and I'd guess half of the proscribed volume was missing. There was no noteworthy odor.

Refilling was easier that expected. There is clearance above the driveshaft for a one quart bottle with a pointy, gear lube nozzle onto which I added a short length of tubing.

The TC clicked smartly into and out of 4HI. I'll try 4LO later today when I can get to a dirt road. It hung onto 4LO when I tried it last week.

I do want to recheck the volume. 40 ounces was the capacity listed. Is that correct?

Ya-Hoooo, progress.

Good work

Yes, 2.5 pints is transfer case capacity, which is 40 ounces

Thanks for responding.

POTENTIALLY CONTROVERSIAL: After seeing improvements from using LubeGard (red bottle) first hand, I plan to add it to the transmission fluid when I do the pan drop and filter change.
Any comments on the use of LubeGard in the 5R55E?

Anybody think it'd be beneficial to add to the transfer case?

After looking at the product, it would be fine to use in automatic and transfer case

Its a friction modifier and it swells seals and gaskets, several products do these things, if you like the Lubegard brand I see no issues
