actually, i would say a mustang rear brake swap is easiest and cheapest...simple mod to the brackets for it to fit. Plus, you keep the axle under the truck and no need for welding stuff up for it to work. Only reason why you don't see them as much is because people think they need 31spline...

The only concern I sorta have with the Ranger 31spline....replacement shafts. Can't just go to a junkyard and pull a new shaft. Explorer 31plines and plentiful. Ranger shafts are shorter than the Ploder shafts....expo rear is 1.5" wider than the ranger. And 31spline Rangers are few and far between.
yeah but how often do you need to replace a shaft? sure, off-roading greatly increases teh chances, but really how often?...expos FTW. only if they weren't as wide....

I thought the mustang swap wasnt possible on the 28 spline axle.

no its totally doable. You can even put expos brakes on 28spline axle. People don't do it because you have to 'metal fabricate' which many are not fans of slash don't have the tools to do it. That is why most do the whole explorer rear end.

You're on locked 35s?

no, you modify the caliper brakets to work on your 7.5 or 8.8 rear end.

Not using the torsen sounds like even another reason to find an explorer axle.

Or...be super cool like me and put in 4.88 gears only to find you you can't use a torsen diff with a 4.88 ring gear, then put in an open carrier, then add the aussie!
