Icon5 A little confused??

I thought all 4.0 v6's came with a 8.8 axel and 4.10 gears? I could have been mistaken but i looked at an 97 with a 4.0 and it had a 8.8 with 3.73 gears? Plz shed some light on this subject for me haha Any help would be great!

its all options from the factory. you should look at your door tag and go over to TRS and look up the axle code.

Definitely not. All 1990+ 4.0s came with a 8.8 axle. But I think the gearing ranges from 3.27 up to 4.56 (granted I've never seen the extremes being the 3.27 or the 4.56 factory). My 99 has 3.73s. My 2007 has 4.10s.

Here's a like to what Dan referenced.

I'm pretty sure that the first year for factory 4.10s was 2000. I ordered them in my '00, so it wasn't any later than that.
