Lock Right Review

I had it installed a few days ago in my 8.8 28 spline rear axle. I'm very impressed with this locker. I've never owned a vehicle with a locker.

City Driving: I expected it to be noisy and tough to drive around town with. It's practically invisible when driving around town. If I roll the windows down and turn the radio off I can hear it clicking in the rear as I make a tight turn. Other than that I can't hear it. I don't hear any clunking or anything either. I didn't have to change my driving much as I'm a moderate driver already. Just don't hit the gas hard in turns and it won't lock up.

Desert Test: I went out last night on a fairly rough trail. I'm usually in 4 hi and in some steep portions 4 low. The truck in 2wd handled everything that used to require 4 hi. The 4 low inclines still required 4 low due to the steep incline along with loose rocks and dirt. There was a 2.5-3' ledge that I was able to climb up in 2wd. It was the side of a small wash. The dirt was somewhat soft but not very loose and no rocks. First attempt and I made it up and out. Second part of the wash had some rocks and it took two attempts but I made it up. The locker really hooks up well on dirt and I'm amazed at the difference it makes. I knew it would be an improvement over an open diff but not this much.

Overall, the Lock-Right is a great locker for the price ($299 from Tellico 4x4). If you enjoy playing hard in the dirt and don't mind changing your city driving habbits a little this thing is a great addition! I can't give any long term reports because it only has 200 miles on it but if I remember I'll update this thread as the miles stack up.

Thats great, good to hear you like it. What does happen if you hit the gas while turning?

It locks up and you'll hear a little chirp. I haven't totally smashed down the pedal but if I did it would probably be louder and longer.

k thats what I thought, I didn't know if it messed up the locker or the truck or something.

I have a factory LS in my explorer rear end. Put in less (about half actually) of the friction modifier I'm suppose to and it locks up really well. Only thing that it doesn't do is ice sometimes if I just try to take off gently. Now if i rev up and drop the clutch then they both spin.
