Manual trans making whining noise.

Just recently my transmission has been making a whining noise under power. Its really noticeable in first through 3rd gear at slow speeds. The sound is barely audible at highway speeds. It only whines when in gear.

Something I else I noticed.
I can put it in neutral, leave the clutch up, and while rolling about 15-20mph, it will whine with some pressure on the gearshift, but its not actually in gear.

Other than the noise, the transmission pulls and shifts normally.
I plan on checking the fluid in it in the next day or so.
Anyone know what it could be? Is it just going bad?

He says it does it while off the clutch, ruling that out for the most part. How loud is it, can you record it? Sound like a bearing?

When the throwout bearing went out in our F250, it did the exact same thing when you let off the clutch.

Mine has 322,000 and the only thing I've had to do is replace the shifter. Did you ever check the fluid?

Very late reply, But. I did check the fluid a day later, It was super low, Apparent its been leaking slowly for a very long time, Just havent noticed before. I filled it and check it 2 weeks later, and it was nearly full still. It still whines, and I'm going to change the whole clutch system and everything this week, so if anyone has any ideas on what to check while I have it out, That would be cool,

After some googling, It sounds like the input shaft bearing. How hard is that to change?

Bump.... My trans started to whine a few weeks ago. 3rd and 5th are the loudest and 4th makes no noise at all.... Could it be said input shaft bearing and again how hard is it to change?

There are input and output shaft bearings If you're going to do the input, you might as well do all of the bearings inside the tranny.

Its most likely a counter shaft bearing. In 4th gear the counter shaft is skipped and the input shaft is held to the output shaft allowing a 1 to 1 gear ratio, that's why you don't hear the whine in 4th.
