Manual Trans won't engae gears

I had a hurst shifter in my 2003 4.0 Ranger. When I went to take it out I heard some noise in trans. I thought I had it in neutral but must not have. Is there any way to fix this problem. Truck is engaged in a gear probably first. Looks like the part around shifter internal comes off but I don't know too much about transmissions. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

It is like it is engaged in first and shifter moved back to neutral.

Check the screws on the outside of shifter, down by the boot..

Make sure the screw are not all the way in...

are you still using the hurst? or did you go to a stock shifter and if you went to a stock shifter is it the one that was removed from the truck or is it from a different vehicle?

I suspect something fell through and is stuck in the shift rails.
