93 Ranger 4WD Issue

Hey guys, i just joined the forum and am looking forward to some useful information! I bought my truck a few months ago and am currently having trouble with my 4WD. I haven't had to use it yet but it did work smoothly when I purchased the truck. I manually lock the hubs, shift it into 4H and everything is fine...until I try to turn. If the steeeing wheel turns anymore than about half way, i hear a horrible mechanical noise like something is breaking or already broken that all but stops the truck from moving and locks it up until I turn the wheel back. Anyone have any ideas?

are you on pavement?

also check out your front U joints in your axle. Sounds like something is binding.

you have a dana 50 twin traction beam front axle

there are 2 u-joints on the passenger side axle shaft , it is always the internal u-joint that fails 1st

consider it internal CV shaft without the rubber boots , it is quite a job to replace those joints

front axle tear down is necessary
